On August 15, 2012 the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) began accepting applications for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). This is a new policy which permits individuals under the age of 31, who arrived to the U.S. before the age of 15 and currently have undocumented legal status, to apply for deferred action if they meet certain criteria. Although this remedy is not specific to survivors, it is important for domestic violence/sexual assault programs to be familiar with this remedy and make sure survivors are aware of this option.

Natural disasters such as tornados, or man-made tragedies such as bombings, can leave children feeling frightened, confused, and insecure. Whether a child has personally experienced trauma or has merely seen the event on television or heard it discussed by adults, it is important for parents and teachers to be informed and ready to help if reactions to stress begin to occur. This Applied Research Paper outlines the importance and value of engaging in sexual violence prevention work with youth. The paper discusses prevalence of sexual violence among youth populations, recent trends in prevention activities for youth, and a review of common strategies and challenges for engaging in this work.
