NRCDV Special Issue: New CEO Announced

Thursday, June 13, 2019

"This year the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence celebrates 25 years of strengthening the capacity of programs responding to domestic violence survivors and their families by promoting effective programs, policies, research, and engagement in prevention. NRCDV began as a project of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence and in 2011, after discussions with key stakeholders (other domestic violence coalitions, national partners, consultants, funders, and NRCDV staff) and a thoughtful assessment, NRCDV became an independent nonprofit.

Today, NRCDV's mission is to strengthen and transform efforts to end domestic violence, and we are proud to engage with partners committed to gender, racial, economic and social justice as we strive to secure real change while keeping a clear focus on the work still to be done.

As the Chair of its Board of Directors, I am writing to share with you news of leadership transitions at NRCDV. Anne Menard, our long-time CEO, feels that the 'time is right' to move closer to her family in New Hampshire. We are deeply appreciative to Anne for her insightful leadership within the domestic violence movement using multiple strategies to strengthen it and respond to the needs of survivors.

...The Board of Directors, led by the Executive Committee, engaged in a thoughtful and comprehensive process to develop a transition plan with NRCDV’s leadership. Based on the expertise within NRCDV an internal search was conducted grounded on select criteria in areas of national leadership, organizational management, fiscal health and other vital areas essential for sustainability and strategic growth. As we bid Anne goodbye with gratitude and support, I am incredibly excited to announce that the Board will appoint Farzana Safiullah as our new CEO, effective July 1st.

As NRCDV’s Chief Operating Officer, Farzana has been an integral member of the senior leadership team for over 13 years and brings a wealth of talent and expertise, a deep commitment to gender and racial justice, and a vision and passion for building more equitable communities. Farzana is a community organizer, a founding member and co-leader of the Muslim Advocacy Network Against Domestic Violence, and most importantly a compassionate and visionary leader."
