“UConn Student Newspaper Under Fire For Two Cartoons” from Hartford Courant, 10/20/10

Friday, October 22, 2010

The article reports, “Last month, two cartoons created by students were published in the University of Connecticut’s student newspaper, The Daily Campus-one suggesting that women have social diseases and the other that women could be bribed into bed by a diamond. The cartoons touched off an outcry on campus, with many students calling them sexist and offensive, and they have prompted the editor of the newspaper… to say that his staff will be working on a “stronger policy” regarding what is allowed into print. … staff will be attending a workshop on violence against women in the near future.”
