National LGBTQ Institute on IPV Content Topic Results

A guide for domestic violence and mental health service providers, advocates, and organizations to improve services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and Two-Spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) individuals, build partnerships and referral networks with LGBTQIA2S+ culturally-specific organizations, and eliminate bias based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

This toolkit is intended to be a starting point for promoting LGBTQ survivors’ access to shelter spaces, and agency-wide training and technical assistance is a critical next step.

The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and the National LGBTQ Institute on IPV is pleased to host this this transformative opportunity for gender-based violence practitioners and researchers who engage in community-based participatory research to learn new methods, share skills, and create meaningful collaborations that will have a positive impact on their work in our communities. Lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) people experience domestic violence at the same or higher rates than heterosexual cisgender people. This research report shares common stories and experiences of over 574 LGBTQ survivors at non-LGBTQ and LGBTQ-specific organizations.

This toolkit explores how sexual and intimate partner violence impacts bi+ communities and how support and social group facilitators can address these issues. It offers facilitation tips and guides that lead you through imagining and creating a peer support group.

As increasing light is shed on the limitations of criminal legal responses to domestic violence, calls for community-based solutions that do not involve the criminal legal system are growing louder. This Teen Dating Violence Awareness & Prevention Month (TDVAM) webinar explores the impact of mandatory reporting on domestic violence survivors, highlighting unique impacts for LGBTQ young people.

This guidance document supports FVPSA grantees in determining the best ways to collect sexual orientation and gender identity data of survivors given the agency’s unique strengths, needs, and community context.

This report outlines the findings of a study with 24 LGBTQ culturally-specific domestic violence and anti-violence agencies across the country. The study examined the unique services and approaches of programs that are “by & for” LGBTQ communities.
