Delegacia de Defesa das Mulheres: Perman'ncias e Desafios

Author(s): Publisher(s):
This article provides a brief overview of the context surrounding the creation in Brazil of the Delegacias de Defesa da Mulher (DDMs), or all female-staffed police stations. Analyzing the trajectory of the DDMs from their inception in the mid-80s to more recent years, the article highlights the main successes and challenges associated with this public policy. Critical-thinking questions are raised, including whether the creation of an all-female physical environment, in and by itself, can dissolve society's sexist culture.
