Racism and ableism come together to create a perfect storm of marginalization and dehumanization for Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) with disabilities. Like racism has done to BIPOC people, ableism has socialized us to believe that people with disabilities are less than those without disabilities. It has taught us to believe that people with disabilities should be “pitied and/or fixed”. The marginalization and dehumanization of BIPOC with disabilities allows offenders to act without consequences. This has led to high rates of violence for BIPOC with disabilities.
During this webinar, Olga Trujillo and Cierra Thomas Williams will explore the unique dynamics of violence in the lives of people with disabilities. This will include a focus on what you can do to help make your program and community more accessible.
