Indigenous Representation in Media and MMIP Advocacy

Event Date
Thursday, May 04, 2023, 01:00PM

Whether we like it or not – media is integrated into our lives. It connects, educates, and influences at home, work and play. This is why it's all the more important that representation in the media is accurate. How are Native American/Alaska Native people seen in the media? Or are we not seen at all? It’s important that Native voices are helping to shape the narrative and why we must be in these spaces to ensure accurate history and culture are shown. In the wake of growing visibility on MMIP/MMIWG2S, the sharing of stories of our loved ones needs to be done with respect and led by Indigenous people. In this presentation, presenters from the Alaska Native Women's Resource Center will explore these ideas and talk about the advocacy work AKNWRC and partners are doing in Alaska.
