Building on the success of our first three well-attended conferences held in 2005, 2010, and 2015, Pathways to Resilience IV will provide a forum to explore the unique and shared aspects of individual and community resilience found in the Global South. We expect those attending from the Global South and the Global North to experience a special event that will discuss what resilience looks like in contexts that are less well-known. Our goal is to raise the profile of research, interventions and social policies that are effective across diverse cultures and that show promise of building people’s capacity to cope when adversity is high. This conference varies the tradition of the previous three Pathways conferences in Canada (see www.resilienceresearch.org) by relocating the event to Cape Town, South Africa. We've invited not only world-class scholars but also researchers and practitioners who are not well-represented in the resilience literature and whose exciting work is less visible outside their own communities.
