On October 12-13, 2023 the Office of Family Violence Prevention Services hosted a roundtable discussion on safe housing solutions for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This report shares key insights and recommendations that emerged from the roundtable.

Promotoras are leaders dedicated to bridging the gap between their community members and health systems. This report shares innovative approaches Promotoras used to respond to and mitigate the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Latin@ community.

This Technical Assistance Question explores the theme for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024: Heal, Hold & Center. This theme is all about building connection to foster healing and racial justice for survivors. As beloved ancestor bell hooks reminds us, “Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.”

The 5th annual National Prevention Town Hall features anti-violence prevention approaches in the Mountain region of the United States through a virtual gallery tour of innovative change-making projects and collectives. This gallery tour can allow us to learn about what’s being mobilized beyond the systems we often work in for violence prevention. A panel follows the gallery tour, weaving together meaningful connections and address questions about reconnection, restoration, and re-indigenizing practices in the Mountain region.

This training was designed specifically for those who provide direct services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence to address questions at the intersection of self-managed abortion care and your work to support victims and survivors of gender-based violence.

In observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month and National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, NRCDV staff Patty Branco and Ivonne Ortiz chat with Juliana Lozano, Founder and Executive Director of Despierta, a culturally specific organization in Charlotte, NC, serving Latina immigrants.

This prevention resource brings together examples based on the best available evidence. It outlines seven strategies to prevent community violence to ensure everyone can live in safe, healthy, and thriving communities.  

This comprehensive toolkit for advocates provides practical strategies to enhance physical and behavioral health (including mental health and substance use), access to care, and overall well-being for survivors of violence and their children.

Listening to the accounts of survivors and advocates can be a powerful way for all of us to stand with others in their pain and healing, struggles and triumphs. This Technical Assistance Question of the Month (TAQ) discusses how the telling and hearing of advocates’ and survivors’ stories play a critical role in promoting cultural transformation and propelling social change. 

In Indiana and across the nation, Black women and girls disproportionately experience a wide range of negative public health and safety outcomes. Recommendations in this guide combine violence prevention best practices from the CDC and the voices, wisdom, and lived experiences of Black women and girls across our state with insights on the systemic barriers that dis-enable Black women and girls’ healing.

Domestic and sexual violence are critical issues facing communities affected by disasters. At the same time, disasters can also have a distinctly challenging impact on those individuals already traumatized by violence. This fact sheet outlines available data and explores how anti-violence advocates and organizations can best prepare and respond to disaster and emergency situations.
