A survey of 1,000 women in five cities found only 368 women were confident or very confident that other passengers would step in to help if they faced abuse. 

"One of the most effective and powerful ways of encouraging young people to make healthy decisions is to know the truth about their friends," psychologist Alan Berkowitz explains. "Because in fact most of their friends are healthy."

"From a pair of Native American women to a Somali refugee to the first openly gay man elected governor, the 2018 midterm elections brought a series of history-making votes that marked major accomplishments for women and LGBT candidates."

"Pets are targets and pawns in the cycle of domestic violence," Phillips said. "They stay because they know if they leave, their pet is going to be killed."

Because we believe that preventing gender-based violence is everyone’s responsibility, and because men are particularly well positioned to influence masculine norms and men’s behavior, we’ve asked, “What else can men do to prevent domestic and sexual violence?”

Each election year, Americans hear stories concerning various tactics used to suppress the votes of American citizens—particularly communities of color—such as strict voter ID requirements, poll closures, reduced voting hours, and voter purges. Discussed less frequently, however, are the unique barriers to voting experienced by survivors of intimate partner violence.
