This report, which details activities of the IOM's Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants programs and projects, focuses on IOM's direct assistance to trafficked persons and vulnerable migrants, in particular the provision of voluntary, safe, and sustainable return and reintegration assistance.

The review looks specifically at the changing human trafficking trends worldwide and describes pilot AVR projects designed to exchange information and spread best practices, while addressing root causes of migration and sharing regional AVRR resources. It also provides detailed regional analyses, statistics and key information, case studies and provides detailed information on the largest existing source of primary data on victims of trafficking in the world: the IOMs Trafficked Migrants Assistance Database.

According to the International Office for Migration's (IOM) review, an average of 60,000 Iraqi people have been displaced per month in 2007. The report identifies sectarian violence and "lawlessness" as the major causes for the increase in internal displacement. The IOM review pays special attention to some of the challenges that women face in this environment, including lack of access to healthcare services, increased religious conservatism in camp settings, intimidation and greater vulnerability to abduction and sexual violence, and other problems.

The book maps out a set of preliminary but common understandings on issues of importance to migrant women and their advocates, and further clarify the experience of women across several key themes: labour migration, migrant remittances, trafficking, immigration and identification - all of which are key areas of migration studies.
