The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, in collaboration with partners from across the Northeast region of the United States, held our fourth virtual Prevention Town Hall on September 13 and 14, 2023.

This National Prevention Town Hall uplifted innovative prevention approaches in the Northeast region of the United States that build solidarity across movements to disrupt systems of violence that disproportionately harm Black women and gender expansive individuals. Presenters engaged participants in conversations around critical issues impacting Black women, youth, and gender expansive individuals including reproductive justice and housing as a basic human need and right.  

It is not enough to support survivors in finding employment, but also critical to support survivors in maintaining employment. FreeFrom models the workplace policies survivors say they need to stay employed, including living wage salaries, 401k accounts with an employer match, flexible work hours, paid and protected GBV leave and emergency safety grants, and more.  

Leading with the shared vision that “All families deserve living conditions in which they can thrive,” this graphic illustration utilizes NRCDV’s Storytelling Framework to center survivors of color for whom economic insecurity poses significant barriers to safety and well-being. This resource makes the case for wage equity as a critical pathway to intimate partner violence prevention, and can be used with a variety of audiences as a tool to move people to action.

Workshop participants will walk away with increased knowledge of how oppression can manifest across the socio-ecological model and the importance of interrupting the early onset of oppression before it escalates to a macro level, historical contributions of Black early movement contributors and the values they leaned into that laid a foundation for the anti-violence work that we do today, and more.

For over 50 years, survivors’ voices and realities have shaped responses to domestic and sexual violence. From emergency shelter to sheltering solutions beyond imminent threats of harm, housing has always been a critical part of conversations connected to survivor safety and well-being.

As a field, we understand that power dynamics are multi-dimensional and seep into almost every aspect of our personal and professional lives. This Technical Assistance Question of the Month (TAQ), authored by staff at Futures Without Violence, offers examples of ways gender-based violence organizations have put their values into action.

This report summarizes the findings from an evaluation of the LGBT Center of Central Pennsylvania's pilot flexible financial assistance model. This includes the challenges encountered and lessons learned in the implementation process along with preliminary evidence of the success of the flexible financial assistance model. 

NRCDV's 2023 National Prevention Youth Summit took place February 27-28, 2023. This inaugural youth-led event centered the voices, experiences, and wisdom of youth leaders engaged in social change work.

In this webinar, NRCDV’s Safe Housing Capacity Building Center presents a panel discussion focused on ways to engage youth in program design. Recognizing that young people are the experts of their own lives, staff from Point Source and a member of their Youth Action Council highlight their youth engagement model.

“Black advocates are being pushed out of the movement when it needs us most.” In this Technical Assistance Question of the Month (TAQ), Ashley Carter, Founder & CEO of ASX Consulting discusses some of the reasons why Black advocates are leaving the gender-based violence movement.

This publication, authored by Dr. Nkiru Nnawulezi, provides an overview of research findings from the Transforming the Gender-Based Violence Movement: Increasing BIPOC Representation and Actualizing Accountability Project (formerly named the Women of Color in Coalition Leadership Project). It explores why racial inequities exist in movement leadership and outlines 14 ways to respond to these inequities.
