Domestic Violence Content Topic Results

This is a summary of a roundtable focused on criminalization policies and their effect on Black women and girls. The discussion centered the experiences of Black women and girls who have survived domestic and sexual abuse and provided an opportunity to consider how the intersection of multiple aspects of a person’s identity shape their experience with criminalization policies.

Topics include prevalence rates, barriers to accessing services, and unique issues facing both trans survivors and service providers. Specific attention is paid to the complex needs surrounding shelter, as well as the challenges and opportunities of rural service delivery with trans survivors.

This report delineates some of the many interconnections between reproductive health and economic security, as well as the impact of access to abortion specifically on women’s economic status, health, and relationships.

This webinar reviewed 1) ways to provide safe shelter to survivors and their pets, 2) details regarding National SAF-T day, 3) new legislation that protects victims and pets from further abuse, and 4) an overview of the Safe Havens Mapping Project.

This Applied Research paper provides an update to Mary Gilfus’ (2002) publication on the pathways from victimization to incarceration among women and girls, based on the relevant research published in the past 12 years. This research provides additional findings about the extent of victimization experienced by women and girls under correctional control, and a deeper understanding of the ways in which experience of victimization can lead to incarceration.

In analyzing the evolution of federal legislation in the United States, the author highlights how a human rights framework calls for a more comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to ending gender-based violence. It recognizes that domestic violence is not a private family matter and that the state has an obligation in efforts to prevent and respond to this violence in a manner that is holistic, effective and accessible to all.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) compiled this media guide to accompany the bi-annual national and state reports that it distributes for The Hotline and loveisrespect.
