Employment Protections for Survivors with Disabilities

Location Name
Virtual
Event Date
Tuesday, June 23, 2026, 02:00PM

Employment can play a critical role in a survivor’s safety, stability, and long-term independence. However, survivors of violence may face significant workplace-related challenges, including navigating leave, workplace safety concerns, trauma-related impacts, and disability-related accommodation needs. For survivors living with disabilities—or those who acquire disabilities as a result of violence—the intersection of employment law, disability rights, and victim advocacy becomes especially important. This webinar will provide participants with a foundational understanding of key employment law concepts that impact survivors and employees with disabilities. Attendees will explore the distinctions between reasonable accommodations designed to support survivors of violence and accommodations provided under disability-related protections. The session will also examine how advocacy approaches may differ when supporting survivors with pre-existing disabilities compared to individuals who acquire disabilities as a result of trauma, violence, or injury. In this webinar, Bella Book — Senior Program Specialist & Program Attorney at Futures without Violence — and Robin Runge — Law Professor and Employment Law Expert — will share information to help advocates
