Understanding and Confronting Vicarious Trauma

Event Date
Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 02:00PM

Vicarious trauma is a common experience for practitioners who work with victims of crime. Due to constant exposure to the pain and suffering of others, front-line practitioners experience significant emotional and bodily stresses that have a cumulative negative impact on their health and job performance. In this webinar, participants hear from a research psychologist and a veteran law enforcement official about their experiences with stress, vicarious trauma, and burnout.

The webinar begins with a summary of published research on the similarities and differences between stress, vicarious trauma, and burnout, then segues into first-hand stories and experiences to show how these findings manifest both professionally and personally. Learn to recognize common warning signs that you have taken on too much cumulative exposure, and what you can do to achieve balance and minimize stress and burnout.
