This report examines how engagement applies within the cultural contexts of Asian men and their communities.

This report provides an analysis of the results of a survey administered over a period of six weeks to over 1,300 Hotline callers who identified as Latin@ survivors of domestic violence. The questions were geared towards survivors’ experiences accessing services and demonstrated the challenges faced by survivors due to language access issues.

The Líderes program was created in 2003 in response to Latinas in the Twin Cities of MN asking for leadership opportunities in their communities. In 2006, Casa de Esperanza developed a curriculum for the Líderes and in 2011 it was adopted by Caminar Latino in Atlanta, GA, and adapted for women survivors of domestic violence.

This issue of Synergy is dedicated to immigration and child protection and custody issues in the context of domestic violence. This article highlights the Líderes program, a peer-education approach to raising awareness about domestic violence in Latino communities.

This manual describes the community engagement process that was the foundation for Casa de Esperanza’s changes in philosophy and strategy. It encourages individuals to think critically about their approach to community engagement and the process that will be most effective for their organizations and communities.

This comprehensive report details advocates needs related to sexual violence in Latin@ communities. For example, while 91.4% of advocates who responded to the national survey said their organization has identified demographics of their intended service population, just 19.3% thought that their clients served matched those demographics; also, participants consistently discussed the importance of creating culturally specific materials that truly reflect the culture of Latin@ and/or Spanish-speaking communities.” This report is also available in Spanish.

Many women, regardless of race or ethnicity, choose to continue to live with partners who have been (or continue to be) abusive. Traditional domestic violence intervention approaches have emphasized women leaving abusive relationships, but the applicability and acceptability of this approach for women from culturally diverse backgrounds, including immigrant and Latina survivors of IPV, is not well understood.

In many places, the trauma resulting from violence and other severe stressors has been addressed mainly by trained mental health workers. At the same time, research has explored the harmful effects of trauma and suggested ways to address them.

This report situates women of color in the United States today, their current electoral impact, and the methods being used to disenfranchise people of color throughout the country and explores connections between this voter suppression and reproductive justice.
