The second phase of NSVRC's Prevention Assessment project focused on interviews with innovative prevention programs and a diffusion survey to document how innovations have spread throughout the sexual violence prevention field. The emphasis of this assessment was on how programs are thinking about primary prevention and the processes that allowed innovation to develop.

This document expands the scope of routine screening for IPV to include assessment for reproductive and sexual coercion. A trauma-informed, comprehensive approach to relationship violence that includes behaviors that interfere with patients reproductive health can improve the quality of care and reproductive health outcomes including higher contraceptive compliance, fewer unintended pregnancies, preventing coerced and repeat abortions, and reducing sexually transmitted infections (STIs)/HIV and associated risk behaviors.

Aging service providers should be aware that the effects of a lifetime of stigma, discrimination, rejection and ridicule puts LGBT older adults at greater risk for physical and mental illnesses. This publication highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity when working with LGBT older adults and describes the barriers faced by older persons in seeking help for abuse, working with law enforcement, and seeking court protections.

Emerging evidence shows that youth engagement is an effective strategy for the prevention of teen dating abuse. The Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence compiled this toolkit to provide organizations interested in convening youth councils with sample forms, agendas, materials and advice about lessons  learned from their experience working with youth.

Domestic violence victims who have a traumatic brain injury (TBI) may need help coping with the high levels of stress and stimulation that can be part of communal living. Because TBI affects different people differently, shelter residents will have different needs. Screening for TBI during shelter intake will help advocates identify ways to make the shelter more accessible and user-friendly.

This publication provides an overview of the original VAWA legislation and its subsequent reauthorizations in 2000 and 2005, with a particular emphasis on how it relates to domestic violence and sexual assault experienced by Latina and immigrant women.
