Suicide attempts, intimate partner violence, and other forms of interpersonal violence are a significant problem for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people; however, the extent to which guns contribute to LGBT morbidity and mortality is currently unknown. This study aims to fill gaps in knowledge about LGBT gun violence by generating estimates of gun ownership and attitudes towards gun control by sexual orientation and identifying opportunities to improve data collection about LGBT gun violence through a review of surveillance systems used to track gun violence.

This report examines the educational, career, and economic effects of intimate partner violence by presenting findings from a survey of 164 survivors developed by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research and administered at transitional housing programs, shelters, and other domestic violence programs in 11 states and the District of Columbia.

Every year the National Call of Unity kicks off Domestic Violence Awareness Month by offering an opportunity to mourn, celebrate, and connect with advocates from national, state, and community-based organizations, governmental agencies, allied movements, survivors and their family and friends.

Being surrounded by strong community, including neighbors one interacts with and cares about, can provide a buffer against experiences and consequences of intimate partner violence.
