This episode of Policy & Advocacy in Action explores the themes in the paper Colonization, Homelessness, and the Prostitution and Sex Trafficking of Native Women by Christine Stark and Eileen Hudon, which discusses human trafficking of Native women and girls, with particular attention to the historical context in the United States and the interconnection between trafficking and housing instability.

At this moment, together we bear witness as the pandemic of racial injustice, systemic oppression, and exploitation continues to rage across the country, causing many losses. This moment in time is a call for transformation – a critical opportunity to revisit the roots of our movement to end gender-based violence in ways that can purposefully restore humanity for all. Part II of the Enhancing Services to Male Survivors webinar series showcases the work of two domestic violence agencies that are leading the way as they expand their services to male survivors. The presenters share lessons learned through this process and offer promising practices to help build capacity to recognize and respond to the needs of male-identified survivors of domestic violence.

Efforts to promote economic justice are critical to preventing domestic violence and supporting survivors. The August 2020 TA Question of the Month explores 3 key strategies for furthering the prevention of sexual and domestic violence through economic justice.

Part III of the Self-Care & Healing During COVID-19 series will bring our expert presenters from Part I and II together to discuss how to move forward during and after COVID-19. The panelists will focus on building effective and sustainable self-care practices, and will share tools for short-term and long-term healing. Each one will offer a unique perspective on the impact of trauma and strategies for restoring peace, joy hope and healing in our lives and communities.

Faith communities have a key role to play in supporting accountability for those who cause harm. In NRCDV's July 2020 Technical Assistance Question of the Month (TAQ), guest writers Rev. Dr. Anne Marie Hunter, Director and Dr. David Adams explore how partnerships between domestic violence service providers and faith communities can work to promote accountability and hope.

Pat II of the Self-Care & Healing During COVID-19 webinar series will focus on the impact of trauma and will explore how to center hope, healing, and resilience for ourselves and our community. The presenters will introduce a holistic healing approach involving culture, spirituality, civic action and collective healing.

Part I of the Self-Care & Healing During COVID-19 webinar series will walk participants through the dynamics of grief as we deal with loss and uncertainty, and as we let go of the shame and guilt related to it. Through discussion and group exercises, participants will gain practical skills to help bring self-compassion into their daily lives.

In NRCDV's June 2020 TA Question of the Month, guest writer Laura Chow Reeve from the Virginia Sexual & Domestic Violence Action Alliance discusses connections between domestic violence work and transformative justice.

In part one of the Enhancing Services to Male Survivors Series, presenters engage in a discussion about including a gender-conscious philosophical framework for enhanced services to male survivors of domestic violence that links to and builds upon the historical roots of the movement against gender-based violence and is consistent with anti-discrimination laws and related grant conditions.

For most survivors of sexual and domestic violence housing is an immediate and necessary need. For American Indian and Alaska Native Survivors the need is no different – but the additional barriers and complexities can sometimes feel insurmountable. In this webinar, presenters discuss the American history’s impact in American Indian and Alaska Native housing instability and the findings from a group of experts from Indian country who work in the fields of gender-based violence and housing. 

In 2014, the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence joined with other state domestic and sexual violence coalitions and national partners in exploratory conversations about the nature and future of our work.
